HestiaCP – Free Control Panel Review

HestiaCP is a free and open-source control panel for web hosting that offers an intuitive and user-friendly interface, allowing website owners to manage their hosting environment with ease. The control panel provides a wide range of features that are typically found in paid control panels, making it an excellent option for small and medium-sized businesses. With its robust features and affordability, HestiaCP has become a popular control panel option in the hosting industry.

One of the most significant benefits of HestiaCP is its user interface. The control panel has a minimalistic design that is easy to understand and navigate. Users can customize their dashboard to access frequently used features and pin them to their dashboard for quick access. In addition, HestiaCP offers a mobile-friendly interface that makes it easy to manage your hosting environment from your smartphone or tablet.

Another notable feature of HestiaCP is its security. The control panel offers robust security measures to ensure that your hosting environment is secure, including 2-factor authentication, IP blocking, and automatic server security measures such as a firewall, automated backups, and SSL support. HestiaCP also offers free LetsEncrypt SSL certificates to ensure that your website is secure and HTTPS compliant.

HestiaCP also provides a range of tools to manage your hosting environment with ease. You can manage domains, subdomains, email accounts, FTP accounts, databases, and DNS records from a single interface. HestiaCP also offers easy integration with popular web applications such as WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal, making it an excellent option for those who want to use these applications without technical expertise.

While HestiaCP offers many benefits, some users have reported occasional technical difficulties, particularly in managing certain configurations. However, the HestiaCP support team is responsive and helpful, providing assistance to resolve issues.

In conclusion, HestiaCP is an excellent control panel solution that offers a user-friendly interface, robust security, and a range of features. It is a great option for small and medium-sized businesses looking for a free and open-source control panel that doesn’t compromise on functionality. If you’re seeking a control panel solution that is easy to use, secure, and offers a range of tools for managing your hosting environment, HestiaCP is certainly worth considering.

Operating systems Supported

Recommended OS for HestiaCP is latest version of Ubuntu LTS (important!) or Debian. Do not use the Ubuntu 23.04 version, because it non-LTS are not supported. If you have old hardware and your OS is 32-bit (i386), do not try to install HestiaCP, it supports only 64-bit (x86_64) operating system version.

Requirements

It can be installed on a VPS or a Dedicated Server. The minimum core amount – 1, memory amount – 1 GB (no SpamAssassin and ClamAV will be installed in this case) and 10GB of disk space. Do not recommend to use a 5-7 GB disk space, as it can make backups or use free disk space for caching or for storing temporary files during cron tasks. If you assign 4 cores, 4 GB RAM, 40GB disk space (SSD recommended), that’s great. We are running about ~200 websites on single VPS with these specs with no issues for about 1 year.

A fork of VestaCP

HestiaCP and VestaCP are two popular free and open-source web hosting control panels. Both offer an intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it easy to manage your hosting environment. However, there are some differences between the two that you should consider before choosing which one to use. VestaCP now is not supported by devs and community. The latest version is from January 2022, so it is not recommended to use it (of course, you can try to install). HestiaCP is one of the VestaCP forks that works stable and free of charge 🙂

User Interface

HestiaCP has a more modern and minimalistic user interface compared to VestaCP. It also comes with a mobile-friendly dashboard, making it easier to manage your hosting environment on-the-go.

VestaCP, on the other hand, has a more traditional interface that may be a little less intuitive than HestiaCP. However, it has many features that allow for greater customization of your hosting environment.

Features & Capabilities

Both control panels offer a wide range of features and capabilities, including FTP, email, DNS and database management, and support for popular web applications such as WordPress, Joomla, and Drupal. VestaCP, however, has a broader range of features, including support for IPv6, SSL certificates, and fail2ban.

Security

Both HestiaCP and VestaCP offer standardized security measures such as automated backups, SSL support, and 2-factor authentication. However, HestiaCP comes with a built-in firewall system, which allows you to set up additional security measures for your hosting environment.

Customer Support

While both HestiaCP and VestaCP have active user communities, HestiaCP has a more active support team that is available to assist users with issues that may arise.

HestiaCP and VestaCP are both excellent control panels that offer a wide range of features and capabilities. HestiaCP may be a better fit for those who are looking for a more modern and intuitive interface, greater mobile support, and a more active support team. Meanwhile, VestaCP may be better suited for those requiring support for IPv6, SSL certificates, and fail2ban. The best choice for you ultimately depends on what specific features and capabilities you require for your hosting environment.
